The practice is headed by Peter Nordquist, Advokat. He has many years' experience as a tax adviser to Swedish industry, mainly large Swedish companies, as well as foreign enterprises with interests in Sweden. Much of his work has been in acting for large Swedish companies in tax disputes.
Peter is a former partner of Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyrå, Sweden's largest and leading law firm. In 1986 he was given responsibility for establishing and building up the tax department there. Mannheimer Swartling's tax group has for many years been pre-eminent among Swedish law firms and Peter himself has long been one of the highest ranked tax advisers in Sweden.
In line with Mannheimer Swartling's retirement rules, Peter left the firm at the end of 2011. He has now established Peter Nordquist Advokatbyrå AB as a highly specialised niche firm in the tax field.
As he had planned, shortly before Peter left Mannheimer Swartling he stood down as chairman of Institutet Skatter & Rättssäkerhet (Institute for Taxes and the Rule of Law), Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Tax Committee, a scholarship foundation and a local brewer's association.
Peter himself is responsible for providing advice and assistance, but highly qualified external experts will also be engaged when necessary. For instance, it may be appropriate in some cases to have an expert from the academic world (such as a professor of tax law) examine a specific tax issue within the framework of an engagement. In other cases the best approach may be to involve an expert in economics or finance. The aim is always to use the right resources in each individual case.
Languages: Swedish and English.
Miscellaneous: During his time at Mannheimer Swartling Peter has developed a great interest in the rule of law as applied in the field of taxation. In his role at Institutet Skatter & Rättssäkerhet he has given numerous lectures on various aspects of the rule of law, and has led a large number of seminars on these topics. In recent years he has devoted considerable time and energy to the significance of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. He has also been involved in the legislative process, among other things as an expert on the Tax Simplification Committee, whose work is fundamental to the present Tax Procedure Act, and also the Tax Surcharge Committee of 1999, whose work resulted in provisions more in keeping with the rule of law. He also spent many years training junior tax lawyers at Mannheimer Swartling.
Leisure interests: Peter enjoys sailing his motor cruiser with his family, spending time at his holiday home on the west coast of Sweden and skiing.
